Barry George defence begins... - 2008/07/22 07:46
Judge says summing up will be next week - why? Because the defence, like mine will be "I didn't do it".
How boring. The media will disappear. The jury go into coma.
"I didn't do it" - how dull. Not a good story.
At least he probably knows where he was - harder when the allegations go back 30 years. Mind you - according to the CCRC it doesn't matter where I was "it's not when but whether you did it".
So now I've discovered (an amazing feat to start with) that I was in America during some of the wrongful convictions, the UK judicial system rejected my defence.
Of course, since there was no evidence that a crime took place (just the words of others, carefully assisted and co-ordinated by police and CPS) - no body, no witness, no photo, no DNA... the entire imaginary process depends on "who do we believe?".
Which was why details like "I remember his front door was painted blue" become so useful.
