Oh My God could Andy Murray be the real thing?? - 2006/02/20 08:48At last, a British 18 year old winning a final. Wimbledon this year might actually be enjoyable. I shall book a place on Murray Mountain.
Perhaps he'll now get his teeth fixed? No, he won't have the time... - 2006/02/20 08:58and it's quite comforting to know that, no matter how much money or success a Scot has, they will always also have awful teeth (like all Brits), dreadful hair (often ginger when from North of the Border), unattractive skin (pale white and covered in freckles) and an incomprehensible accent (what can those poor San Jose Yanks have made of his winning interview?). They give us Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. We get back at them with Maggie Smith as Jean Brodie!
Re:Perhaps he'll now get his teeth fixed? No, he won't have the time... - 2006/02/20 09:31Im proud of my awful teeth! Much better than going around waving a St George flag to prove I`m English! Most people in Britains` teeth would appear to rot in the que for the dentist sign up these days. Last year, I applied to a cosmetic dentist, to repair the damage done , by twenty years of microphone bumps on my front pegs, and was told that even if I paid, the profession would take a dark view, collectively, and locally, on my seeing another dentist, so chipped and pinned they stay.
Re:At least the adulation seems justified ! - 2006/02/20 10:31He has won a couple of things MM, but it`s usually in the middle of the night when we are not viewing. Besides which, returning to the upper message re-teeth, Brits love a tryer, and of course one with no dental help. The limp wrist was probably caused by 4 hours in a dental que , holding a medical card up for an appointment. In the unlikely event that he wins Wimbledon, he has probably been advised not to smile, as then he wont be re-invited to the USA open. And here is a smile for you....
Re:At least the adulation seems justified ! - 2006/02/20 10:46He has a very loose and natural style and will break into the top 20 before the end of the year. He can not win wimbledon this year but is absolutely the most exciting prospect i've ever seen on the british tennis circuit. McEnroe rates him highly and he rarely gets it wrong.
Re:At least the adulation seems justified ! - 2006/02/20 10:48Tim Henman won the following:- ATP Tour 1998, both the Samsung Open and the CA Trophy in 2000, Copenhagen Open 2001, Adelaide Hard Court Tournament 2002 and the Paris Masters 2003 - so that's six titles.
Good news about Andy Murray. When I went to bed he was 1-1 with Leyton Hewitt. I wake up to the news that he's won his first major title. Great stuff!
Re:When someone is playing tennis, what else do you look at but his teeth??!! (nm) - 2006/02/20 11:01Because the teeth stay in one place,(hopefully) and the ball keeps moving!
Re:At least the adulation seems justified ! - 2006/02/20 14:19He's certainly as good as almost anyone ranked between 10-50 of which there's very little difference in quality these days.I watched the game in the early hours of this morning on Eurosport and Murray just basically sliced and chipped back every one of Hewitt's groundstrokes, until the australian made the error. The result being Hewitt's 58 unforced errors compared to just 14 winners.
Hurrah we have someone else to cheer and he's Scottish, rather than being Canadian!
