I do feel that Rolf's sentence of 5 years and 9 months is too harsh, based on the fact that the abuse wasn't penetrative and there is very little burden of proof.
It seemed to be mainly based on the fact that he said that he hadn't been to Cambridge and video footage showed that he had appeared in some ITV shite rip-off of It's a knockout called Star Games in Cambridge. It doesn't mean anything happened there though.
He touched people's bums and breasts, rather unpleasant I can't deny, but does it ruin your life, I severely doubt it. If he broke their legs with a baseball bat he would get much less of a sentence. I know which one I would prefer.
Off course the tabloid lynch mob don't think this is enough, as they are baying for a tougher sentence. Banging up an 84 year old man for probably the rest of his life isn't enough for them. His frail wife will be left to fend for herself and no doubt compensation hunters will clear out his estate and leave her penniless, maybe then they will be satisfied.
You also have to question Bindi's friend who seemed to be prepared to have a relationship with someone who allegedly abused her.
I for one feel that this no one has come out of the case well and it's a sorry reflection of this country.
Do we know it wasn't penetrative with Bindi's "friend" ? Ever? Anyway, it is more about a betrayal of trust and intimidation than the actual sex. (in general)
If she was under age (according to the law as it was at the time) or anything that went on was non consensual then he broke the law, if she was over 18 or over the age of consent and was willing (whatever her motivation at the time) then it's a shit thing to do to your wife (unless your in an open relationship), but other than that the 'relationship' was their business... |

Personally, I would feel more abused by someone hacking my phone than having my bottom felt. No one seems to thing Coulson's sentence is too lenient |

Can I just say, Robbie, I think that line is inspired.
I think he'd probably have gotten about the same or perhaps more for breaking more than one persons leg with a baseball bat...

I wonder what it was that attracted her to the millionaire Rolf Harris in the first place? Where there no other strapping young men around to protect her from this fiend? Was she that isolated? |

Indeed, in the Cambridge incident the claimant made a shocking and bizarre mistake and said it was in 1975 when she was 13.
It was actually 1978 so she must have been 16/17.
I met Rolf Harris in 1999 on a visit at the Sydney Intercontinental Hotel at a party, hosted by of all people Lord McAlpine (he owned the hotel and Harris was staying there)
I made about 2 minutes of small talk but it would be so easy to say Rolf's hand wandered and groped me. Indeed, as a man it would fuel the media as they went into a frenzy.
Therefore I simply cannot accept that people who meet, perhaps for the only time in their life, a major celebrity especially one they say groped them, could forget the date.
I can recall every person I've met, when and where. Of course I could be different.
and the most serious charge was the long affair said to have begun when she was 13- but does a victim go back time and time again until they are 29 ?
and the one who was on a trip from Australia ( who says she has tried to forget but keeps giving interviews)..obviously her parents must have thought long and hard about her traveling without them so she must have had a good relationship with them. Why did she not report Harris then?
There is a reason these charges are cherry picked and bundled together to support each other : on their own there be would little chance of them standing up. And throw in the porn claim for good measure |
