I had same problem re holiday times and costs. Did not get fined but if I had done would of just added to holiday budget.
Did approach school about learning timetable and materials for each subject and found a lack of response. So I suddenly saw that schools do not plan a year ahead and divide up how they are going to teach which could all could be put on a school network so pupils and parents can log in and all can be caught up easy. I see a little bit but the lack of harnessing positive approaches firstly teaching kids to believe in themselves so that they do not need a teacher to hold their hand figuratively speaking (Got to add that in these times). They can look up the timetable and materials fill in the gaps and email answers and questions.

There is so much positive stuff the government could do but with their defeatist approach of austerity what hope is there. Please help us change the country to a can do. Can not take any more of the defeatist approach!!!!

I agree about the holiday fines, John.
Children do best at school when their parents are fully supportive of their education and alienating parents over holidays will do more harm than a few missed days will.
On the other hand, I have little sympathy for parents who remove the children for frivolous reasons.
Nobody has to send their children to school. It is not compulsory. So I think if you choose to take up the free education and childcare the least you can do is to have them in school every day as agreed.
