It seems that thanks to lobbying by Nigel Farage, Arron Banks and certain Tory MPs, some EU countries may block a request to extend Article 50, thus ensuring that we crash out without a deal on 29 March.
It's a done deal. Banks & Farage have sewn up Italy. Here's @patrickwintour pointing out same re Poland. Hungary's a no brainer. We will not got extension to article 50. MPs need to realise that today. It's a fantasy. And just 16 days till we crash out

Last week @arron_banks & @andywigmore went to Veneto, the heartland of Italy's Lega Nord. Today, the plan is revealed. The fascists have agreed to help Britain exit without a deal. Salvini will block an extension of article 50.

It is all so bonkers and so unimportant. Poor voiceless May croaks her way through but there simply has to be another referendum (since, stupidly, there was a first one) to resolve whether or not the country still wants to leave the EU. If it does, fair enough, go for the appalling May deal and hope they were right and we were wrong. If it doesn't, drop Brexit and get on with government. |

Even though the UK Exchequer gives Northern Ireland €1 billion - every MONTH - just to pay its bills?
The EU wouldn't remotely consider such support - and NI only survives because of its status, as part of the UK.
And the Republic of Ireland couldn't afford to take on NI - because of its recent virtual bankruptcy, and National Debt of €200+ billion.
NI won't be going anywhere soon...

Isn't it now simple? EU declares NO delay on Article 50 unless a second referendum confirms the UK still wants to leave. So that can happen in April. If it is decided that today's majority agrees with three years ago and still wants Brexit; in which case a deal can be struck very quickly, similar to the slightly tweaked May deal (probably allowing an Irish border). I think Brexit is possible as long as the UK gives Ireland back to the Irish (old song). If I lived in Northern Ireland, I'd choose EU over UK any day. |
