Although Joe Kennedy's bootlegging connections have never really been proven, there's probably some truth in them.
Certainly, he was anti-semitic - and supported McCartyism, as well as being a staunch anti-communist and right wing activist.
Painting himself as the perfect Catholic (mass every Sunday; church donations etc.) family man and altruistic businessman - he was also a hypocrite.
Gloria Swanson and he had a long affair; his son JFK had a shorter one with Marilyn Monroe.

Lady Astor was married to Waldorf Astor - of Waldorf Astoria fame, the famous Manhattan hotel. On Park Avenue and currently closed for renovation.
An anti-semitic/pro-Nazi, Nancy was born in America - and only came to live here in her mid-twenties; becoming Plymouth MP, following her husband's elevation to the Lords.
Our former King, Edward VIII - and his wife Wallis - were also admirers of Hitler, and often met him before WW2.
Interestingly, E&W lived at the Waldorf Astoria (in the Royal Suite) after the abdication - in an era when very vocal and severe prejudices are acceptable.
Even by politicians.
Countess Markiewicz also had helpful family connections - being the daughter of Sir Henry Gore-Booth, an Anglo-Irish aristocrat and Atric explorer.
Labour's first female cabinet minister (Margaret Bondfield) was a humble embroidress and shop assistant. A plaque on the Church Street, Hove shop - where she served her apprenticeship - is a physical memorial.

The first elected female MP was Sinn Fein's Constance Markievicz who didn't take her seat like all the Sinn Fein Mp's don't.
## While Britain's media hyperventilated over the Chief Rabbi's ludicrous anti-Corbyn claims, they have completely ignored Rabbi Mayer Weinberger who wrote to Jeremy Corbyn refuting the Chief Rabbi's claims and thanking Corbyn for supporting the UK's Jewish community over the years (now he has received death threats)
Spot the difference:
The Chief Rabbi has a "flock" of around 40,000 out of an estimated 240,000 British Jews.
Rabbi Weinberger represents around 50,000 British Jews.
