You wouldn't believe what people I know who play golf at Wentworth say about the late Bruce Forsyth. Public image very much at odds with the rude arrogant bully who bestrode the greens almost daily...

Bored to tears of the stories.

Who gives a fuck and believes a screen persona anyway? Why should I care what the man was really like; or any celeb....?

As I to them; they are nothing to me.

I have heard stories about Bruce, my peers loved him. He actually did bore me to tears once one Christmas, that was just watching him on TV. I was so used to North American TV, I forgotten how shit UK and Irish TV was even back then.

Exception was Dave Allen of course.

I was disheartened when I heard Larry the Cable Guy real voice whilst attending his show. He was talking backstage to his manager or promoter.

Some bloke behind me said to his wife that Larry is not even a even a cable guy. She Very quickly told him to go to bed or stay in the lobby.
wyot You always have to take it with a pinch of salt; one person perceives a slight the reputation cannon balls.

Of course it could be that he just didn't bother with us non clebs JK! 😁

A bit like Etonians when I was at University; I might as well have worn "comprehensive school" aftershave...
JK2006 I bumped into Bruce strolling along the beach in San Juan Puerto Rico; he was an absolute delight; we went and had a cocktail together at the Caribe Hilton; he could not have been nicer. Only time we ever met. Likewise Cilla Black; terrible reputation but every time we met she was lovely from the 60s on.

She didn't have to talk but she didn't have to be cold either. Johnny Carson was an asshole both on and off screen but at least he was legit. If he was unhappy you knew about it. He still made time to talk to fans during breaks.

I only attended and watched David Letterman once. Only because Ted Nugent was going to be interviewed. Letterman is cool to his fans and certainly to audience members.

Even my friend went to dozens of Letterman and Carson shows. Neither of them belittled anyone whilst audience was present nor avoid eye contact. They did sign autographs but they made it clear they can't promise to sign everything.

Harry Redknapp is one top bloke, he would sign autographs and talk to everybody worldwide if he could. He treats people like individuals, if you wanted him to sign a shirt for relative he would ask you about that relative. Even if you don't like football you'll still be drawn in by his fab personality if you see him.

Signing autographs and chatting to fans doesn't make you a top bloke, just someone with different boundaries to others.

It is bloody creepy that people cant just do their job as required, without having to fawn over idiots in case they get called a bully in the press.

You have to be there to see it. I pick up on people especially the bullshit.
