Great post, Wyot.

At the start of this interview, the TalkRadio presenter says that Couzens had a "record of extreme cruelty to animals". Can't find other references to that online, for some reason, though it sounds plausible. In the footage of him being interviewed by police at home there's a pet cat in the background.

Maybe there was school friends who came forward ?

In almost every crime documentary I have seen or true crime book I have read in the past, there's a 99% chance they will mention cruelty to animals when they mention the killer childhoods or youth TV or book.

I did read in an article in an Canadian newspaper years ago they did a report on sexual perverts. It stated it starts off with normal porn the fiend obtained at a young age, then they get bored with it after looking at the same thing and then they gradually move to the more extreme disgusting stuff or act out their fantasies. It's always men by the way who are the culprits but women !

I suppose it's like drug addicts - starts with weed or beer they enjoy the buzz then their bodies get used the highs then try chase the buzz all over again.

I have heard that the Met Police are saying he wasn't one of their officers which is passing the buck.

Friends in Deal said Couzens was regularly seen wearing his police belt with handcuffs and pepper spray, when not on duty, and he lied that he was an undercover police officer

Why didn't his friends report him if he known to be abuse his power or were his mates up to shenanigans ?

I think we know the answer to that already.
Get rid of them!

Defund the police ?

JK2006 I think you have a very accurate view of the world WYOT.
Wyot If an off-duty Police Officer this weekend kills an elderly male pedestrian by stealing and joy-riding in a car - assuming people get animated enough about an elderly male but let's say he was a very friendly cute looking one - then next week Police (fully backed by Boris and every MP) will announce:

- Protecting elderly males is urgent and all our responsibilities.

- We must all ensure our cars are locked and parked as near to our houses as possible to deter their officers.

- Elderly males out walking alone should stick their thumbs out to try and get a lift from a passing ice cream van if feeling threatened by any erratically driven vehicles.

We will discover:

- The driver who killed the elderly war veteran was an officer from a neighbouring force and his colleagues are great detectives because they had nick-named him "dangerous drive Doug" and noted his addiction to watching "The Fast & The Furious". Sometimes while driving Police vehicles.

-Despite being reported for driving over the toes of male Police staff (nearing retirement age) in the staff car park on four separate occassions; Doug had never been charged with a crime.

-Colleagues - while noting that Doug had always been "odd" and refusing to join in car share schemes with him - attributed his behaviour to "being a bloke".
