Too true GM. Yes many will die of cold - the old and vulnerable again. Many perhaps lonely and isolated as made too scared to go out and mix. These numbers will never be poured over daily by media - so of no interest to our Gov.
I remember my youngest sister, was a renting a flat that was so cold that windows were frozen in the inside and her furniture would have a layer of ice on it. I didn't know until she invited me for a drink. The first thing I did after looking around was to drive to her back to mum's.
We didn't bother about getting the deposit back from the landlord. We looked for 4 weeks somewhere affordable she could rent, we found her a nice terrace house in the country for the same price she was renting the flat. Landlord said she could rent it out cheap if she did the decorating, I actually paid a decorator, carpet fitter out off my own pocket.
I didn't want any money back, she is still at the house today and she did manage to buy it from the landlord out of her expense. Yes hard work does pay off that's only if you have a secure jobs - which is hard to find these days !
However not everything can do that but that's the reality for a lot people who live cold flats with inadequate heating. Yes heating is expensive, however you never hear from MP's moaning that they got very little money left on the meters. Then think about how much they should put on each meter, then have to decide what to eat with 2 options which could be between beans on toast or spaghetti on toast.
I would advise that anyone who has a TV licence should cancel it.
I know the elderly are set in their ways, however if you know an old neighbour give them a blanket or throw you don't use anymore. And take over a casserole or something with a small bottle of brandy or rum. |

The price of no cost-benefit analysis and rush to lockdown for political reasons laid clear. 60 000 to die this winter in lethal combination of a suppressed flu virus & resurgent Covid .

Could, of course, be an exagerrated prediction. Could be an under prediction. Who knows now when this Gov and the mighty SAGE are playing games or not?
One thing, though, is becoming abundently clear to those with any facility to contextualise and compare information: the lockdowns will in the end have killed far more than they saved. |
