"Oh yes we do". A lot might go to the hospital without needing to, but the main thing that gets you admitted with covid is very low blood oxygen, and I don't know of a way to fake that. Of course people are going to panic about illness when they don't have the reassurance of their own GP being available. The fault is with those who have trashed the health service, not the patients.
