JK2006 I think, Honey, you are reflecting the views of a fast growing majority. When this started, most of us simply obeyed government instructions, feeling they (and the "experts") knew more about it than we did. Now it is dawning they DIDN'T.
Honey It is one thing if there is a concerted effort to wipe out (or minimise) the virus for the protection of susceptible people, but quite another when we are expected to do it indefinitely to the detriment of other vulnerable people, businesses, and normal life, while the government allows viruses to be carried back and forth on planes and sends children to super-spreading events five days a week.

I can support an emergency fix, but not a never ending farce, and it seems that the only thing we are "learning to live with" is fascism.

Yes so frustrating isn't it. How many tens of millions of children died of Spanish flu? Not one of them died "with" Spanish flu. And how many children have died with Covid? Just what is the mortality rate? People who compare Covid to Spanish Flu are fantasising, for reasons only they can know.

Reading history..even in Oz 40,000 died from Spanish Flu before it was defeated.

Looking at some of the government adverts from the time ..1919..is illuminating.

Wear masks, pubs shut, all theaters shut, social distancing..basically exactly the same as for Covid !

Yes Aus history with Spanish Flu is interesting and it was certainly an outlier in having (comparatively) very few deaths. The restrictions slowed the infection but still 40% of the population contracted it eventually but still with low death rates.

Aus was a leader with vaccine development & deployment for SF and had more time to do this; as it took time for forces to disperse back from mainland Europe after the war.

None of thi, though, answers whether the Aus restrictions for SF caused more harm than saved more lives? I think there was certainly much more of a case for them with SF (compared with Covid) given it's infection to death rate in Europe and that SF was lethal to all ages. It did not discriminate like Covid; which is essentially only lethally dangerous potentially to the very old/those with co-morbidities.

This is not meant to sound callous (and I am sorry to hear how much Omicton in Aus is alarming you Hedda; and do understand why) as I believe that public health decisions must take into account a cost-benefit analysis to all society, rather than just one portion of society.

My objection has always been that this has not happened (though it is now 2 years on in the UK) rather than getting the outcome I don't personally agree with.
