It seems to be almost accepted now that you cannot offend Islam. Just as, centuries ago, you could not blaspheme against Christianity.
Why not?
What's wrong with criticism, however rude, stupid, discourteous or foolish?
Is Islam really that fragile that it cannot take negative comment?
Listening to Radio Four this morning (my norm these days after scrapping Breakfast TV over incessant Olympics coverage !) I heard someone say that in the USA the government has enacted laws preventing any criticism of Judaism, which is why the Islamic world is so incenced that films ridiculing Mohammed can be made.
Anyone know if this is correct (and has details / links) ?

personally I think it's quite ill-mannered but there is something quite sinister about this film that has caused the troubles ...CIA, Mossad ???..who knows. |

I'm not a fan of belief structures. They tend to be crutches for the morally weak. And when they act as a foundation for violence, killing, murder and cruelty, I hate them.
As I get older, I become more and more aware of the bad as well as the good in our rapidly declining species. Regular visitors will know my opinion that the human race will cease to exist quite soon. I think we are reaching the end of our position on this planet.
There is a small minority of really stupid nasty people; they are obsessed and narrow minded, unable to see the broader world. They will always be negative and unpleasant, be it about religion, celebrities, handsome men or pretty ladies, critics, successful or rich individuals... they can't help themselves. Like the scorpion and the frog... it's their nature.
But everyone has an opinion, be it misguided or accurate, shrewd or dim. Who cares?
