JK2006 No, sorry, Robbie; the BBC should not allow its programming to be dictated by trolls.
robbiex You can understand why they don't show glitter, Saville etc, remember the furore that was caused when the bbc accidentally screened an episode of the Tweenies where someone when one of the characters was imitating a long haired blonde dj with a cigar and a likeness for Jimmy Saville.
robbiex They did play Glitter's hits up until the "Saville" scandal and glitter got another conviction. JK's hits were played too, until the sensitivity over yewtree increased. I don't think that the problem is with the bbc, no other major channels will play them either, they would just be bombarded with complaints if they played this music. I agree we shouldn't re-write history, if you are going to repeat totp from years gone by, they should be shown in their entirety, they are a log of the music at the time, lets not pretend that Glitter wasn't part of the music scene and that Saville was at the helm of probably the biggest british music show ever.
PaulB I other words, stop editing history.
JK2006 The time has come to insist that the BBC and other broadcasters stop censoring music on radio and TV and simply play it because it is good or has appeal to listeners. Artistes should not be censored for moral reasons. Van Gogh is not banned due to ear chopping. Play all Top of the Pops shows. Play Gary Glitter hits alongside Phil Spector hits and Michael Jackson hits.
