I have problems with all this criticism of Blair with his actions in Iraq. Blair was democratically elected, as was Bush - not once, but TWICE. Blair's decision to go to war was ratified by the democratically elected Parliament. Iraq was a dictatorship, ruled by a cruel and unjust tyrant who murdered many of his own people, and many Iranians.
History will judge, but in my opinion history will judge Blair to have acted correctly.
Is ITK saying Churchill should have been bought to trial by declaring war on Hitler - no, of course not.
Uncle Neville declared war not Winston, and Blair messed around with what info he showed parliament, hardly the same thing.
The man is a war criminal, and responsible for what results followed his egomaniac decisions. |

Hitler started WWII (quite accidentally) when he tried (in self defense) to stop the invasion of the Polish army.
(only joking, of course) |

AFTER it had been lied to (and presented with a "dodgy dossier" which made claims we now know to have been lies).

Churchill didn't declare war on Hitler. |

So you justify the killing of hundreds of thousands, based on the current despot killing tens or hundreds (and those were probably engaged in violence against him anyway)? Then go on to steal their resources and deliberately set religious factions against each other to keep the region unstable.
Blair lied, to parliament and the people, to start a war of aggression. Something in the Nuremburg judgements about that, IIRC. |
