Well clearly anyone with any sense of justice now wants Costa Rica to go all the way. They must be our underdog favourites. When Deniz put £5 on Honduras for me to win (I can't cope with all this internet betting thing) he reported that they were 4000-1 along with Costa Rica. Unfortunately I picked the wrong under dog (should have done both).
Apart from that it has to be Algeria (North Africa) and the USA (my second home - my Dad was a Yank); both highly unlikely to win but wouldn't it be wonderful?
What we DON'T want is an obvious winner (Brazil, Argentina, France) though I'd be happy if Holland get there - so frequently the bridesmaid. Essentially as long as it's a small, impoverished country (I know, England is out now) rather than a wealthy, fat, enormous one (well, the USA don't count as they have traditionally been so useless at football so a US victory would be nice).
And having said that I looked up Algeria on the map. It's ENORMOUS! |
