Pattaya Flying into Barca on monday!
Jim Hi JK,

Something was wrong but it wasn't as bad as it looked.

I've looked into this a little, going on youtube and looking at what actual pilots say, and from what I can gather, and I think it makes sense, the airbus taxiing onto the runway was actually taxiing across it to go to another one, and had enough time to do so without causing a collision. That is to say, the other plane could have landed no problem. There is general consensus that something wasn't quite right, however, otherwise the 767 wouldn't have "gone around" as they say, ie. taken off again and gone round for a second landing attempt, and no one is criticizing him from doing so. The pilot has every right to go around for any reason.

Beware of the foreshortening visual effect of the long focal length telephoto lens, making the planes look much closer than they actually are. The airbus could have got across the runway no problem. All the same, it would probably have been better advised to stay put and in normal circumstances wouldn't have even had to cross that runway anyway.

So keep calm and keep flying. Just don't look out the window.

Jim
In The Know It probably happens almost daily - the only reason we have been told is that a plane spotters filmed it and put it on YouTube !
JK2006 In Barcelona - should make any flyers shake with terror. It's on the TV news.
