I think the horror of it makes details like if she spoke Dutch or German unimportant, so it would be easily forgotten.
I'm not sure how much of it is taught in schools now, but the resources available are very basic,so when I was teaching it to my children we built a "hiding place from the soldiers" in the attic and it made a lasting impact. (It was grim)

honey!oh sugar sugar. It seems like a sensible assumption seen as she was born in Germany to German parents.
JK2006 in watching Pointless contestants give silly answers but I was pleased to see the girl who thought the original language of Anne Franck's Diary was German go out.
