No idea if there's anything to it, but no-one who was locked up for a crime they did commit without hope of release would have anything to lose by spending their endless hours trying to convince others of their innocence.

30 years? How old is he-about 50 I reckon and out of the force for at least 10 years.
He would have to have joined when he was 10 years old. But he was in uniform for 9 years and PCs don't 'investigate'.
