At the time, waltzing was absolutely outrageous, as there was physical contact (which could get quite close, even allowing for the massive dresses that maintained a certain amount of decorum. It also made young ladies dizzy - in fact, the more I think about this, the more I like this story.

Actually, I really enjoy reading about what are basically old showbiz stories. Jacues Brel and Edith Piaf have incredible stories. Maria Callas - inspiring and extremely tragic at the same time.
But one of the most surprising (and least known) is the extraordinary tale of the two Johann Strauss', father and son. It has everything: glamour, pomp, crowned heads, excess, rags to riches and - I put this forward cautiously - some extraordinary music, if you can manage to listen without thinking of Andr |

I still cannot warm to Stravinsky but at least I now see the point of it. |
