A majority decision from the 7 High Court judges is required by Pell.
If he fails to get at least 4 to support him - all legal avenues will have been gone through.
The Vatican will then move forward with its own case/action against Pell.
So far, it's noteworthy that no accusations or proceedings have been instigated or taken - by the Catholic church/Vatican.
Following complaints from victims/parishioners, it was the Australian authorities who took action against Pell.
Just as happened in the Dioceses of Boston, Philadelphia, Omaha, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Washington etc.
Regarding the Boston cases, the Oscar winning movie 'Spotlight' was released in 2015 - starring Michael Keaton.
During the early 2000s, the Boston Diocese had orchestrated a huge coverup of large scale child molestation - by its clergy.
Spotlight detailed the investigation and publication of the coverup - by The Boston Globe, which won a Pulitzer Prize itself.
Cardinal Bernard Law, the instigator of the coverup in Boston - and depicted in the movie - was recalled to Rome.
And promoted - for covering up the deeds of around 90 offending priests, and arranging hush payments to victims!
Later, Law presented - to the Vatican - a list of places in the USA (and around the world) where major scandals involving abuse by priests took place.

This Eucharistic procession took place in Sydney yesterday - with 5/6,000 people taking part.
All made the one mile walk towards the Cathedral, in what has become an annual event.
Showing that - notwithstanding the bad press generated by the Catholic church there, in relation to child abuse by clergy - it has retained strong allegiances.
The important and pivotal trial of the currently incarcerated Cardinal George Pell takes place during March of 2020.
