Totally agree about the useful exposure of our wrong priorities but will anything change as a result?
Our indispensible key workers have learned that after a decade of pay freezes they will face at least 2 years now of further pay freezes to pay for the furlough scheme to keep non key workers in jobs. On top of the lost lives among their ranks.
The non key workers will be free to make as much money as their wits enable over the next 2 years, while presumably not making up the difference in increased taxes to pay for the protection they have enjoyed. |

I agree about CoronaVirus exposing many of our problems Hedda - the mighty Corbyn has been shown to be right about so much (how come we suddenly have no homeless? If the money was there why didn't we use it years ago?). But - as you know - for me the villain is the media - exaggerating the Wuhan epidemic into a plague - and the DeathFour governments - believing them instead of looking further. The tests thing has always bothered me. If everyone in the world was tested we would know how many had it and only then (not even certainly then; I'm unconvinced the tests prove negatives; I think many, like myself. got a mild version and cured it without needing antibodies, just like Flu). |

I gave up trusting Spiked after it was revealed it's backed by the ghastly US right wing billionaire Koch Brothers.
Sort of supported claims I had previously read where the extreme US right wing in the 1970s had decided to court the so-called Libertarian movement and co-opt it for their own nefarious reasons.
The Spiked mob claim to be former Marxists but where they ever?
How can he know that when people die of another ailment , it's wrongly labeled as Coronavirus?. Surely that requires some evidence?
And this is a bit weird and sort of meaningless:
"Also, the number of infected people is fake, because it depends on the number of tests. The more tests you do the more infected people you get."
The real problem with Coronavirus : it has exposed how much of the world for decades has been fanatically shifting to "free market" (it never is) Neoliberalism almost as a religion where governments have taken on the role of running economies firstly on behalf of corporations and secondly citizens.
And thus the Shut Downs have exposed how fragile this is as even the most Capitalist of nations like the US & UK scramble to pump £Billions into the economy lest it all collapse in a heap.
Preparing for a Pandemic has been off the cards because it's a government enterprise that doesn't produce a profit, just speculates on a future event so why bother?
Yet we spend endless £Billions on maintaining armies in case of future wars yet Coronavirus has killed far more than any skirmish is likely to.
Coronavirus has exposed how our priorities are all wrong. |
