Barney Outside the norm for his era, CD was very keen on exercising and keeping fit - and would often cover more than a marathon, in a day.

Sometimes, he walked from his London home to his Rochester one in Kent - when his contemporaries travelled by coach or horseback.

CD was also somewhat unique - in that he introduced at least a dozen new words into the English language, including abuzz and doom(ed).


wyot I would be fascinated to know how he would depict London folk and our political class 150 years later...
