Covid is a trivial virus? An "I'm Alright Jack comment

Not so trivial when it could well destroy the UK economy and put the entire world into Recession.

This will be as a result of the catastrophic and ill-judged response to the virus Hedda.

Not the virus itself.

the catastrophic responses have come from Boris & Donald.

Basically no response at all and denial.

Prove however those responses caused the deaths.

I never said the responses caused the deaths Hedda so have nothing to prove to you thanks.

In response to you stating that a virus will crash the world economy I stated that it is not the virus that crashed the economy and will be responsible for the misery to come, but our response to the virus; i.e full catastrophic lockdown done too late and for too long.

Surely this is neither complex or controversial.

You may disagree with my thoughts, but I hope we are all agreed a virus is unable to legislate?

This is posted merely to clarify my misrepresented position; not to try and continue the substance of this thread.

The virus is trivial for 95% or more of those catching it. The effects of governments trying to deal with it are NOT trivial and are often lethal. End of discussion, please.

Obesity will fuck you up.

Yep Green Man it does seem to be massively linked.

This story is heart-breaking for the family but human beings can't continue to grow morbidly obese and not expect health implications. These children at 22 had a range of chronic conditions before getting what would probably have passed as "the flu" if they had been a healthy weight and not already a long way to rushing to the grave anyway...

Maybe a positive from this virus is people will take more responsibility for their own health and stop expecting Governments to protect them from every indulgence.

If you saw any other creature on this planet as grotesquely overweight (I know I know I'm not allowed to point this out...) as these poor young people, you could only conclude that mankind had interfered in order to farm them...

As a species: wake up!

My partner was in the police force. She was strict with fitness and eating habits. However some of the male counterparts were in awful shape. When I see police in South Africa they are chubbier then some American police departments.

Remember human beings were not designed to eat crap food.

Anyone can squeeze two 15 minute workout a day. You don't have to Hit It Hard, don't be unrealistic with body. Joe Wicks works hard daily and eats right - he probably has the perfect genes which not many people do sadly.

I know I will never be Mr Universe but I'm realstic with my work out. Doing something is better than nothing.

Prove however those responses caused the deaths. You simply cannot make flippant throwaway comments like that.

The virus killed the people (now 9 children in the USA but maybe they had medical conditions)

How do you tell now half of Britain and the USA what is best when they respond to idiotic conspiracies?

It's a new virus for Pete's sake. There are no rules, there are no perfect ways to handle it (although Trump disbanding Obama's pandemic unit set up after Sars was a big mistake).

So many experts giving simplistic solutions to a virus ( can you imagine when the Spanish Flu hit - doubt people were blaming the Bill Gates of the era).

This is how life works. There is no perfect set-up where we all go about our lives and know how to handle some new deadly event. It's a bit like saying you could control a Hurricane ( mind you Trump thought he could with a Nuclear Bomb..God help us )

And creating solutions in retrospect is nonsense.

The Big Difference between Covid and the (frigging ) Flu is that we now live in wonderful "market economies" where for 40 years various governments have made everything revolve around profit and the success of Corporations is treated as life's most important aspect.

All out the window as a new virus comes along and almost destroys these market economies.

Entire fleets of major airlines are sent to the desert in retirement. The ginormous tourism industry is possibly shattered for all time. 1000s of hotels will go bust.

The tourist shipping industry is desperately trying to park their ludicrously huge Westfield type hideous ships and are pondering on whether they can afford to keep 200 maintenance staff on them (these ships seize up if they are not in use for 3 months) One of the biggest Scanadavian shipping lines has gone bust already.

All in just 6 months. The Market Economy is the problem and no matter how often we point it out it's ignored.

All the responses from major countries have been caused by still worshiping corporations first and not people (when a Fascist style would be dictator like Trump suddenly gives Americans a gift of $1000 you know it's almost Doomsday. And that's a fraction of what he should do)

Enjoy the ride.

I agree it is stupidity/gullibity. But I also think these are exacerbated and legitimised by "political correctness" that tries to claim everything is equal.

PC has been a massive force for good. Of course a woman who is as able as a man should be paid the same, and someone's skin colour alone should result in no discrimination.

But it has now moved beyond this to claiming there is no difference between X and a Y. Of course some people are smarter than others, for e.g. Of course a male can't change his sex into a female -due to lacking an X chromosone. Be nice if they could, but sorry not everything is a "right" that is achievable.

In terms of weight we are doing no one any good by pretending that any size is equally "valid". Because it is killing many people - biggest killer of our species at the moment.

In terms of criminal justice policy we allow harm to continue if we don't target the communities that have the gang culture problem rather than pretending it is ethnicity-neutral.

I fondly remember the late Clive James on Question Time, gently pointing out to a worthy "leveller" that when it comes to targetting potential terrorists we should discriminate because "most Islamic terrorists don't look like Ena Sharples.."
JK2006 I put it down to superficiality & stupidity. When society tells you "Don't smoke; it will kill you" yet people choose to smoke, and there are 165,000 deaths as a direct result in the UK alone. Yet gullibles choose also to ignore the facts and praise government and NHS when a mere 45,000 died who happen to have Covid19 (and most died from other causes; pneumonia; old age; heart). And to believe the media hype. And to believe government figures and media hype ("Another 3 people died FROM Covid19 today; the world is coming to an end; pay attention stupids").

And the stupids ("how incredible building all those Nightingales in ten days at huge expense" when they are empty and thousands die in care homes without ventilators or proper care) spout the cliches and brainlessly clap the NHS for killing more people per cases than almost every other country in the world.

Gullibles! Who needs 'em?
