I don't think most people under 40 know the difference between right and left wing. To be fair these terms have also lost all meaning in reality as well. A useful working definition of a right-winger is now: someone reluctant to virtue signal at the drop of a hat. You read it here first.

Jo I wonder how the Commission was set up and composed and whether any of the bodies criticising its findings might have an axe to grind for not being included.

Did they?

It reminds me of the Democrats whinging about the unfair voting system for four years until it went in their favour and became infallible.

I don't think they complained about the body prior. I think this goes beyond a self interested party political reaction. They really believe that if something doesn't fit with their world-view it is wrong. If you dare to question why the report should be questioned you are now likely to be labelled a racist.

The definition of a racist, it seems to me, gets broader all the time. They would call it greater understanding of the issue, and perhaps it partly is; but I think it is also distorting meaning & reality to signal virtue and the risk is that the word (and so concept) of a racist will be devalued & normalised.

This would be a tragedy because real racism is an evil to be battled everywhere.
