You can’t be Botham because you’re not short tempered or arrogant.

Never heard anything positive about him from anyone.

He was bloody good at cricket though!

Yes he was, what I read in the papers and on television news.

I hate the sport and I hate most sports even football.

I do enjoy stock car racing on a Sunday though and I like rodeo which is more of pastime.

Not that he's President of Leukaemia Research - and completed a dozen marathons, raising £10 million for cancer charities?

I am well aware of his charity work, you moron.

I read his autobiography on a flight to South Africa, despite I hate cricket I found it in the airport lounge that someone left. I have to read something.

Not forgetting they can all have a trophy or medal.

As a child I was good at cricket. I opened the bowling in my league side, and at 14 started playing some games for the men's first team; on one notable occassion bowling a hat-trick to red faced men (and they were definitely men back then as changing sex - like dark matter and unconscious bias - hadn't been discovered yet...). We didn't win anything though. My talent culminated in trials for Hampshire but they didn't agree with me that they were dealing with the next Botham and mistook me for just another pretty-handy kid who would never make pro.

My younger brother was shit at cricket; couldn't get a bat or bowl for love nor money (I don't know why he tagged along really...) and ended up playing in some "special" but very fair competition where you basically couldn't be bowled out and everyone received a medal, including him!

He has never let me forget his medal - nor the gap on my mantel piece where mine should be - and I have ever since been unapologetically elitist; believing it a kindness to let people who are crap at something realise that they are, so they don't spend too much time on it...
