DAMN !!!!
Wish I'd known (although I have seen it before) .... I only just discovered (yesterday) that Saint Thomas More's(*) only son (and heir) John More II (1509-1547) married Anne Cresacer, and that after his (John's) death, she married George West of Aughton and Aston, near Rotherham, Yorkshire. George was the son of John West of Aughton, and Anne, daughter of Ralph Eyre of Offerton-in-the-Peak, Derbyshire
The Eyres of Derbyshire are, of course, my ancestors.
(*) He was Beatified by Pope Leo III on 29 December 1886, and Canonised by Pius XI on 19th May 1935. His Feast day is celebrated in the Catholic Church on 22nd June. Already the Patron Saint of Lawyers, he was declared Patron Saint of Statesmen and Politicians by Pope Paul II on 31 October 2000 |

Tears are pouring down my cheeks; 45 years after I first saw it, the scene between Wendy and Paul as he says goodbye is so moving and so brilliantly written and acted, it makes me weep every time I see it. Extraordinary. Great art. |

I'd forgotten how good Robert Shaw is as Henry. Superb. |

On BBC2 at the moment; one of the best films ever with the greatest acting ever from Wendy Hiller (and, of course, Paul Scofield). |
