I read that the TOTP studios used to be packed with people, then someone pointed out the safety aspect and limited it to just a handfull.
Like TFI, the TOTP audience is shuffled around to where the camera is.
TOTP doesn't have the feel it used to now though does it? I don't think it's because of the small audience, it lost it's sparkle since then. |

These shows need to move along quickly, have as many tracks as poss, and SHOW THE AUDIENCE. I remember being herded around during a TFI filming and loving every minute of it (Tom Jones was on that night).
Years ago TOTP used to film the audience dancing and it was great watching the appalling dancing and fashion gaffs ... |

Word on the street is that BBC 3 have just commissioned something that promises to be 'the Tube for the 21st Century'.
So at least both of their viewers will be set up for the weekend.

Yup, one that "sets you up for the weekend" like TFI did. Makes you "know" the weekends here, puts you in the mood for going out and having a good time.
Our current Friday night line-up doesn't have that effect at all! |
