Westminster's dark secret 11 Years ago
don't recall this bit off gay bashing:

"In the summer of 1982, there was a sensation when it emerged that the Queen’s chief bodyguard was actively homosexual. His prompt resignation did not abate the fury of MPs such as Eldon Griffiths, a much respected backbench Tory, who exclaimed: “It is astonishing that the positive vetting of this officer should either have failed to reveal his homosexual proclivities, or if they were revealed, that it was not regarded as making him a security risk."

why is an 'active' gay bodyguard a risk?

I've never been interested in others sex lives but have always though those in power, MPs , PMs, presidents (getting blowjobs in Oval Office)...much better for them to be 'active' and not frustrated.

I bet Margaret & Denis were active. Denis always looked happy

I suppose before it was acceptable a gay bodyguard might be blackmailed and therefore a security risk?
