2013: BIG Brains Boycott Izrael 10 Years, 11 Months ago
May 2013, Stephen Hawking joined many good Jews, and UK MP George Galloway in an academic boycott of Izrael's 'ZioNazis'.

World-renowned professor Stephen Hawking, 71 year-old theoretical physicist and Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, had first accepted an invitation to attend the Izraeli President's conference, entitled Facing Tomorrow. Held in Jerusalem in June 2013, which also attracted major international figures.

However, Hawking wrote a letter to Izraeli President Peres to inform the President of his decision to boycott the event. The British Committee for the Universities of Palestine issued a statement on Hawking's decision, describing it as, "his independent decision to respect the boycott, based upon his knowledge of Palestine, and on the unanimous advice of his own academic contacts there."

TODAY - Several Michigan professors are joining a group of more than 100 prominent Middle East scholars and librarians from across the country and abroad calling for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions.

The academics, who also include scholars from Harvard, Princeton, Columbia and Stanford, said their request follows recent academic boycott resolutions by groups including the American Studies Association, the Critical Ethnic Studies Association and African Literature Association.
