Eurozone crisis: The grim economic reality

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28785700

'French Finance Minister Michel Sapin has spoken of Europe's "economic malaise". After another quarter of zero growth in France, he has admitted that the government's previous forecast of 1% growth this year is impossible to reach.

It is not just France where uncomfortable truths have been unveiled. In the second quarter of the year, Germany suffered a 0.2% decline in GDP.

An important survey earlier this week concluded that economic growth will be weaker in 2014 than expected.

Italy is back in recession and the French economy stagnant. Other countries are hinting they will cut their growth forecasts.

And the risk of deflation is growing. French consumer prices fell 0.4% month on month. Portugal's price index slumped 0.7% in July. Spain saw the steepest slide in consumer prices in five years.

French Finance Minister Michel Sapin says there is "economic malaise" across Europe amid poor growth
Falling inflation and non-existent growth also puts countries like Italy in crisis.'

And this in the middle of a worldwide economic boom!

Don't forget the worse is yet to come, with EU sanctions against Russia about to cause another recession.

You really can't make this up, the EU is one big catastrophe but the politicians just can't see it but they know where to go to can claim expenses.

Unlike Pattaya, Andrew knows "who to blame."

Causes:

While few predicted the financial catastrophe, almost everyone has an explanation as to why it happened.

To economists, it all seems painfully simple. Too much foreign money was flowing into the U.S. from the Asian countries especially China. The availability of easy credit meant that too many people borrowed to buy properties that they could not afford. The BANKERS bundled up these loans and sold them to investors that could not understand the complexity of these bundles and the risks inherent in them. Once U.S. borrowers started defaulting on their mortgages, they lost their houses and investors all around the world, including BANKS and HEDGE FUNDS, lost their investments. For the critics of BUSH adminsitration, the government failed to regulate the activities of the BANKING BEHEMOTHS. For the Fed critics, the crisis resulted from ALAN GREENSPAN'S policy of keeping the interest rates low for an extended period of time. Given the ongoing nature of the crisis, many complicated explanations will surface in the years to come.

Yet the root of the economic depression might very well lie in one fundamental human instinct: GREED.

The U.K. consumer-debt led growth is just more of the same, and, as before, is unsustainable.

National or individual, the only TRUE way to grow is to make-and-sell valued product.

Not mere low pay work-and-buy - even more debt!

Will they ever learn?

Quite right, but don't forget the ITK theory...the looney left a la Gordon Brown...even though it started in the USA under a 'rabid rightist named Bush...and the beloved coalition were split between joining The Euro, and forgetting to warn us about the danger,as an effective opposition should.

Right on both counts !

The lunatics in the USA started selling "debt" packaged-up as a "product" - and the UN banks simply followed them and jumped in with both feet.

The loony Labour Government - who should have been protecting OUR interests - just let them get on with it (and abandonned all regulation of the banks in the process).

You forgot to mention that both the tories and liberals never made any attempts to warn us about it...so it can be fair to say that it was completely unexpected by all the political parties.
Boom and bust economic bubbles were a regular feature of past tory governments in the 80s and 90s....but funny enough the best economic success was under the left leaning Clinton....you should listen to Hedda more on economics

'‘Unfortunately, Mr Juncker’s attitude is all too common among EU officialdom which, in general, has contempt for democracy.’
Tory MPs also rounded on Mr Juncker. Peter Bone said: ‘How dare he tell us who the best person is for the job. It just demonstrates why people increasingly believe we should have nothing to do with this stupid, politically correct, elitist group of bureaucrats.
‘Mr Juncker should simply butt out. He needs to understand that the more they make these ridiculous decisions … the more clamour there will be among the British public for us to simply get out.’'

Great empires stay that way because they have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances....The EU on the other hand has shown no adaptability to change....even rats are clever enough to get off a sinking ship, are we?

German Eurosceptic party AfD wins Saxony state seats

'The AfD, which says it is anti-euro (the currency), rather than anti-Europe, won around 9.6% of the vote.

Eurosceptic parties made large gains in the European elections in May.

The projected results from Saxony, a state in eastern Germany, indicate a much more successful showing at the ballot box than had been predicted.

The BBC's Damien McGuinness in Berlin says this is the first time that an anti-euro party has won seats in a German state parliament - which is big news in a country where support for the European Union is traditionally strong.'

Now remember this is during a worldwide economic boom...normally a time when centralists dominate politics, and the status quo is maintained.

'In his latest blog BBC Business Editor Robert Peston described today's move as "a last roll of the dice".

"The European Central Bank has now almost exhausted its ammunition for preventing the Eurozone sliding into a devastating deflationary, contractionary spiral," he said.

Seems even the biased BBC has realised the truth!

French far-right 'at gates of power' - PM Manuel Valls

'France's far-right National Front (FN) party is "at the gates of power", Prime Minister Manuel Valls has warned.'

'His comments came after an opinion poll showed that FN leader Marine Le Pen would beat incumbent Francois Hollande in presidential elections in 2017.'

Seems even the pro Euro left are worried!
