It's only natural for people to want democracy and freedom.

Just as in Syria - where the demonstrations were exactly like this until the "government" started attacking the protestors.

Let's hope the Chinese have learnt a few lessons ... it would be an awfully big crash if the country exploded.

There's no culture of democracy in the Chinese world ITK,expect this to fissile out,Lord Patten of Prat made sure of that.

The Chinese are actually the most Conservative people on the planet.
It's also run and only works with the active support of local "governors" who can have 50 million people under their control ( Mao's Long March was to get their support)

The only way China could change systems is if these local governors /warlords withdrew support which they never will as they cannot survive on their own.

Even China's critics cannot explain how the complex system of government would work any other way.

Plus the burgeoning Middle Class now 100 Million (50 mill 10 years ago)like it the way it is....tens of millions of peasants don't even know who actually runs the joint.

Things have moved on ITK.
While HK is still important,China is now the economic powerhouse,HK is not the icing on the cake anymore,but more like the '100s and 1000s' on the top.
