Yet Monk is far and away the best series on TV all weekend.

Someone should shoot the wanker who's pretending to run BBC2 these days.

Here is the reply I got from the BBC Re: Monk 17 Years, 5 Months ago
Dear ---------

Thank you for your e-mail addressed to Roly Keating. Due to the volume of correspondence he receives Roly Keating is unable to answer personally. Once they have been read, e mails are forwarded to this department for reply.

This department has a wealth of knowledge about BBC programmes and policies and is experienced in the workings of the Corporation and have therefore been authorised us to reply on his behalf.

I was delighted to read of your interest in 'Monk', however I understand that you have concerns regarding its scheduling. Further I note that you feel a more apposite time would be a midweek slot between 8-9 o'clock.

May I explain that even very popular programmes face competition for a place in the peak time schedule. These placings are limited in number and there can be practical difficulties in timing programmes to meet fixed 'junctions' in the schedule, such as 22:00 on BBC One for news and 22:30pm on BBC TWO for 'Newsnight'. By carefully commissioning programmes that fit around these fixed points we hope to provide a range of subjects to interest the majority of our audience. We always seek to ensure the schedule remains lively and relevant for the audience and that all types of programme are given fair consideration.

I hope that this goes some way in clarifying the situation; however I note that you take a different view. Please be assured that your comments have been made available to the scheduling department as well as senior BBC management. Styles and policies are continually reassessed based on the feedback we receive from viewers.

You may find the official website for 'Monk' of interest:

www.usanetwork.com/series/monk/

Please note that the BBC is not responsible for the content found on any external sites.

Your interest in the BBC is appreciated, thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

Regards

Jacqui Allen

Get satellite or Cable!

Hallmark (Sky 153) has the new series every night at 7...

So he's a wanker because he has a different opinion to you about a TV programme? grow up. As for posting his picture, you must lead a very sad life!

Fair point on manners Godiver but I do have to say it worries me when Controllers seem totally clueless.

Of course I'm biased since Graeme MacDonald scheduled both Entertainment USA and No Limits at perfect broadcast times on BBC2 but I would venture to say he was justified as one series peaked at 9.7 million viewers and the other at 5.7 million!

It must be a difficult job to perfect as many of my favourite shows have been growers that a pilot would not have done justice to.

The list of 'forgotten' shows is endless and populated with subsequent classics. I suggest taking solace in the cult of 'monk', makes you feel like you get something that others don't.

What I love about "Monk", is representation of OCD, and how the offlicted character is a hero as a result of this disabilty. Not since "Ironside" has this been achieved.
I never would have thought that a show of this standard, with such a great idea, would have come from America instead of an obscure indie producer over here.
The way this is achieved, is very formulatic.
Mr Monk , normally solves the case just after the second half of the programme, and inevitably, does the "bonding" thing or "office joke" thing in the last five minutes.
The show has it all, and I can only describe it as a comforting bowl of lentil soup, in which you can delve in and out of at will.
Box set for Xmas?Yes please...and I prefer my lentils orange, not green, as they make a mess of the glass bowl. If theres` one green one in there I refuse to go back into the kitchen, and will sit on the stairs with my I-pod on.
