Why do they keep calling it "child porn" ? A child can not consent to "porn". It is child ABUSE images!

as to calling it child porn or child abuse images..I don't see the difference and one factor never revealed was just what the material actually was.

Photos of kids from a clothing catalogue are counted as 'child porn' if the perp has other material- it is deemed he /she possesses it for a 'sexual' reason.

Likewise the material could include European nudist material (which is actually legal in the US). Or it could even be sexual drawings of children where no real child is involved.

Jumping to conclusions isn't wise in these cases and the very fact they report weave Jimmy Savile into the tale demonstrates a ridiculous effort to sensationalise complex issues.

I have a lot of Mike Denning recordings on disc I don't like him as a person but his voice is great.

The images and films recovered were categorised in the 9 counts he was charged with and these categories determine the nature of their contents. He had some of the worst kind and the judge in his summing up referred to the specific nature of some of the films and it was shocking. His prison sentence is suspended but the restrictions placed on him mean he will have little 'life' - Internet restrictions, communication restrictions and being on the sex offenders register amongst others. I doubt he knew Savile personally but it was he himself who mentioned the man in his defence! It was he himself that always boasted about his very short spell on radio 1 whether true or not. The charges date back to 2006 but the Savile affair had not broken in the media by then ... and the biggest question of all - what prompted the raid of his home in 2013? Therein lies a much more sinister concern. There is a huge fire under this smoke. How do I know? I was in court - I knew this man as he was campaigning for the election in 2010 so followed the case with interest. The phrase 'c.... p...' was used in court although the judge did say it was perhaps not the best term to use ... The original report in the Loughborough Echo is a very accurate summing up of the proceedings - the Mirror just puts its own sensationalised spin on it. This man IS a despicable pervert.

Turns out he was a Breakfast Show stand-in in 1970 (the Mirror's spelling didn't help research) - Blackburn was covering Jimmy Young's slot whilst JY had the entire 'school holidays' off that summer, and whilst the Breakfast Show was coveted by many others those early days of daytime R1 were compromised by sharing the shows and audience with R2 (back when the R2 audience were quite often pre-rock&roll, never mind pre-Beatles) - so the demographic was quite strange at that point.
He can't have a good impression though, otherwise he'd have got a regular gig there.

So "1970s Radio One DJ" is somewhat misleading when he had left 9 months into that decade after a temporary stint.

I remember him as a local DJ on Hallam or Trent or somewhere north and a pirate briefly before that.

I shook hands with Jimmy Savile on Southsea Seafront back in 1978. Guess I must be another former associate.

I Wonder if the Rolls Royce boy from that day got his payout and I wonder who paid it if he did. Was it the Savile Estate? Was it Portsmouth NHS?. Was it the Transplant Games or was it Portsmouth City Council who own the land on which the assault was alleged to have taken place. Plenty to choose from there. Maybe Liz got a payment from all of them. Wouldn't be at all surprised!!

He was a DJ and phone-in host on Radio Trent in the East Midlands in the 1980s.

I, and other proactive young groupies, had the honour to grope and shag the superfit mass aMuser, Jimmy Savile several times.

Well this is a shock. I used to call him often when he was running a late night phone-in on Radio Trent around 1980, indeed I still have a number of tapes of our conversations. I also actually met him a couple of times. He showed me round the radio studios once too, I was 15 at the time and into radio and techy stuff. He was a nice guy and very professional.

Now, where do I claim my compo?

I worked with this guy for 14 years. I always found him creepy, he was a compulsive liar a total nightmare to work with. He had endless complaints put in about him from staff and students alike yet somehow always managed to talk his way out of the situation. For the many years that I had to work with him, he was the bane of my life at work. The guy was a total creep. For the people on here asking whether he was actually a friend of Saville's: the answer is no! He worked with Saville very briefly but they were not close friends. Mike always loved to 'big up' his celebrity contacts but the man is full of bullshit

Several posters above also assume the images depicted child abuse. Without knowing the origin of the material, we can't know this. The images might have been made in a jurisdiction with a different age of consent, or where the acts depicted aren't legally characterised as abuse.

I'm not in favour of causing harm to unconsenting people for sexual gratification. However, someone who downloads illegal, open-source porn and views it alone is acting entirely within his private sphere. If we prohibit this, our rationale is no better than "I don't like that so you shouldn't do it." The same argument, in the context of private homosexual relations, was gone over thoroughly in Dudgeon vs UK back in the early 80s.

Did Steve Merike used to do 'Pop Quiz' on TV? I remember watching that show but I don't remember him being on radio.
