Several posters above also assume the images depicted child abuse. Without knowing the origin of the material, we can't know this. The images might have been made in a jurisdiction with a different age of consent, or where the acts depicted aren't legally characterised as abuse.
I'm not in favour of causing harm to unconsenting people for sexual gratification. However, someone who downloads illegal, open-source porn and views it alone is acting entirely within his private sphere. If we prohibit this, our rationale is no better than "I don't like that so you shouldn't do it." The same argument, in the context of private homosexual relations, was gone over thoroughly in Dudgeon vs UK back in the early 80s.
whilst my advice is
don't break the law I've always wondered about this endless claim that looking at photos is continuing the abuse.
Does that mean the cops & the judge, the barristers in court are also abusing the person in the photo or is the 'abuse' temporarily suspended ?

Disclosure : as a 4 year old I was a victim of 3 other 4 year old's who pulled this scam on me : I dropped my shorts & that ran away laughing

there seems to be so much shame that must be attached to all things sexual...so that genuine rape victims..or those who have appeared in child porn pics are repeatedly told
"your life has been ruined". Do we force those people to become what we predict? Failures?...Are we not perpetuating abuse upon them?
I'm thinking now of the 89 yr old who said that Morris man abused her. Many are saying she is so brave..that the poor thing had to wait so long..and of course she has a right to disclose anything she wants but I hope that at 89...I will have other things to think about..like who will be waiting at the Gates with St Peter to welcome me and are their 5 Star Michelin restaurants in Heaven and is all Champagne free
