BBC Radio Humberside has played "Everyone's Gone To The Moon" quite a few times in the past couple of years.
I find such bans quite insulting to my intelligence, I do not expect Radio drivetime to come out of the news and play "Leader Of The Gang" but I do expect such big hits of the time to be played when Pick Of The Pops are playing "the top ten in it's entirity" from 1973 or 1974. In Glitter's case I think that things have descended into a farce, I'm sure they'd ban the term "Glam Rock" if they could get away with it... but if any retrospective reveiews of 1972, 1973 or 1974 are made that do not not feature any mention of the Glitter phenomenon then things really have gone too far. Apart from "Blockbuster" and maybe "Can The Can", the number one hits of 1973 don't get any bigger or more era-defining than "Leader" or "I Love You Love..", are they going to try convincing us that they weren't so???

BTW JK, apart from EGTTM, what were your biggest UK "Radio hits" prior to 2001???

I completely disagree with the article. Having a criminal record is one thing, abusing 11 year old girls is something else. We don't want to hear his records.

And as for you, you might not be a paedophile, but you're still a pervert.

Amused

One of the reasons we like JK is because he happily allows posts like the one above from David... 18 Years, 1 Month ago

Who's Next???? 18 Years, 1 Month ago
Rock'N'Roll & Leader Of The Gang are huge tunes that arguably belong to the public, played and chanted at sports events worldwide. I Didn't Know I Love You Til I Saw You Rock'n'Roll, Doin' Alright With The Boys etc are classics, and in America were they are better known as homegrown cover versions. I don't believe music should be judged years for the misdemeanors of it's creators. You don't ever hear Chuck Berry being banned from the airwaves, and he has been convicted of many a sexual felony and by all accounts is a very dislikeable character; there are many other similar examples... It makes you wonder: if the Pete Townshend case had gone tits-up for whatever reason, would they have attempted to consign The Who to the backwaters of rock history???
Many artists and showmen are deeply flawed individuals - hell, if Phil Spector is found to be guilty of murder will we all have sacrifice the glorious music he made???
