Foodies, know thy source, you can now watch your cheese mature

It's a webcam set up to watch cheese - and for those with short attention spans they will be releasing a time lapse version later.

BBC say:

Cheese makers in Somerset have set up a webcam on a truckle of Cheddar so that people can log on to watch their product maturing over a year.

The round-the-clock camera - which can be downloaded as a screensaver - is due to go live from 1 January 2007.

West Country Farmhouse Cheddar carries the Protected Designation of Origin status ranking it alongside Champagne, Parma Ham and Cognac.

"It's better than watching paint dry - just," said chairman Philip Crawford.

"As you can see we really do take our cheese-making seriously. We nurture our cows so they produce lovely milk which in turn creates exquisite cheese.

"Some might say this is the most boring website of 2007, but our cheese is worth waiting for," said Mr Crawford.

The highlight will obviously be when someone walks up and chavs the cheese!
I do promise though that at some point this year there will be a live webcam food post,(much more exciting) I have planned this for some time.I feel the need to actually prove my recipes to you all, instead of type them out.
Should be a good food post tomorrow, although our table is still not confirmed.

I have a cunning plan!
We have decided we want this very cheese for our wedding in April by which time it should be ready.
I don`t want to be fobbed off with the one next to it, I want that one, and I expect to see the man pick it up off the shelf and wave when he does so!
Watch this space, this will be fun, I am calling them now.

Cool idea! For them and you.

If it doesn't already get your other-half-in-waiting to change her name to begin with W - I believe they turn cheeses over so it'd be M and W, Aaaaahhhhh- or just lie, the newspapers will love it

Seriously you should get them to mark it as yours - if nothing else the people at the Museum of Hoaxes will be glad of the confirmation that it really is a webcam of a cheese.

Probably good for promoting British cheeses too.

M+W is fine for us, thats the correct initials.(albeit one a surname and one not)
I have left a message on the ansafone, apparently the cheese is having a day off today.
I think everyone has noticed that I do love a good eccentric project.
This could be the food post coup of the year.
We want the cheese and we want it now!
