TOPIC: Big Brother racist bullying?

Big Brother racist bullying? 17 Years, 3 Months ago
I can't comment as I can't watch the programme but remember CH4 is the station which approves the broadcast of the ramblings and delusions of diagnosed paranoid schizophrenics without any concern for their welfare.

As I said I never watch it so I don't know who is in it or not - wasn't Ken Russell and Leo Sayer and aren't they both out now? And a guy from Steps or S Club 7 (I always mix them up).

Another one who hasn't seen it, but...

If their is racist bulling I assume the bullied is capable of fighting their own corner. I would hope other contestants (?) would have the moral fibre to stand up too.

The issue arising is the use of people for entertainment - I'm using "use" as a pejorative - I find it tasteless and misguided, it seems the lowest standards are the ones that prevail.

It's all a bit too near the Sunday entertainment Bedlam once offered.

Re:Big Brother racist bullying? 17 Years, 3 Months ago
more and more tv shows are using people who really shouldnt be on tv... look at the last BB... its like tearing the wings off flies sometimes.
as people on tv get freakier and freakier its making the loonies watching think they are normal.

10,000 complaints! 17 Years, 3 Months ago
If I was a cynic I would comment that there are very few programmes where it would appear the entire viewing audince complained.
Oh I just did!

Being even more cynical, CH4 are showing - if you want to boost ratings, be a racist bully! 17 Years, 3 Months ago
And our dear Prime Minister joins in with platitudes like "I haven't seen it but racism is wrong".

A great help.

It Worked ! 17 Years, 3 Months ago
BB is back in the headlines and wiewing figures recovered from the lowly 3.5 million before the controversy to 4.5 million yesterday.

Just shows that a bit of controversy works - even for a crap (allegedly) programme.

Controversy allways works, it`s the last ditch "get out of jail free card"(no pun intended J).
I don`t believe for a second that this was not rigged to blow off, by pushing particular pscycholical buttons on inmates, sorry I meant "housemates".
I only put it on my telly because Ken Russell was on it, and he is an intriguing chap, I assumed he had a game plan but obviously not, as it turns out.

We often do lists on here, and I would find "Celebrity Musician and Writers in BB " unmissable.
(It won`t happen of course, but here`s my "housemates")

David Bowie
Keith Richards
Ian Hunter
Ronan Keating
JK
Sir Cliff
Geri Halliwell
Diana Ross
Amy Winehouse
Michael Stype
Lily Allen
Joni Mitchell
Poly Styrene
Kylie
Joan Armatrading
..and myself just so that people can have the "what the bleedin`hell is he doing in there factor!"

Easy answer, cooking!

With all the edit facilities and useage... 17 Years, 3 Months ago
it is TOTALLY Ch4 to blame; they must carry the can.

Simply put, ratings were dropping so they used the racist card.

Not responsible in this time of playing with fire.

But then they did it to me too (but made such a mess of it that they buried it, nobody watched - lowest rating for the slot in 4 years - and they skulked away in shame).

Watching the news this morning, I have to think about the PR again, they are brilliant but they have had to use the lowest card they had in their pack.
Rascism is a nasty issue and a fine line, I wore a Pakistan T-shirt to a cricket match as I needed a team to support( as I believe Chris Evans did) some people saw this as rascist.
I do not get, rascism , homophobia or any form of bigotry, any person who does understand these forms of behaviour and see them as entertainment, please explain.

This just gets bigger and bigger 17 Years, 3 Months ago
and I think some top heads at Ch4 will roll when people put two and two together and realise the total is... 4!

Amazing. A top Futureologist told me at Christmas this would be Karma Payback Year.

Chickens come home to roost.

Now being in Australia i have not been able to follow BB. But i did have a look at it on Youtube and BB's website. I have a few comments i have to say.

1. This jumping on the racism angle is a smokescreen and a total whitewash. First of all everyone is singling Jade as the culprit and are calling her every name under the sun.

2. Jade is mixed race. Her dad is black. Ok that is not to say that from what ive seen she hasnt been harsh to Shilpa but racist no. The reaction a lot of people have had, commenting on her being ugly, fat etc is EQUALLY RACIST, SEXIST, SIZEIST, BEAUTYIST etc You get my drift.

3. Like her or not, she has done well for herself and many people have commented on Jermaine calling her 'white trash'. HE DID NOT ! He even said he respected her.

4. In a week where the dispatches programme aired which was far more damaging and serious, what did our politically correct media do ? Jump on poor Shilpa being abused in BB house, rather than address more serious issues.

5. To call someone a Chav, dumb blonde, and other horrible words levelled at models and women of low intellect is as offensive as the N word. I'm black and proud and have been called it. So no excuses if you call jade horrible names you are just as bad if not worse coz then you are being hypocritical.

6. BB are manipulating the whole country and making a lot more of the personality clash between the 2; Jade and Shilpa. We are the ignorant buffoons who cannot see this. Pit together an over privileged Indian actress who is used to having people like Jade (lower caste and class) as servants in her own country, against a self made but arguably not very bright mixed race Essex girl. What do you think is going to happen. Jade would have reacted in the same way to Tara Palmer wotsit or whoever.

7. Death threats to anyone on a TV show is abhorrent and reminds me of the poor Hearsay girl who got hurled abuse in Church because she killed a million people ? Oh no but because she won a TV talent show.

8. I love Indian people and had many Indian friends when i was in the UK but i couldnt go to their houses or go out with one of their precious daughters oh no. Indians especially the elderly are very racist and i challenge anyone to argue with me. But the young are progressive and moving towards tolerance and equality.

9. Jo and Danielle mad offensive comments but they were hardly racist for crying out loud. If we slag off the French, the Scots or Irish is that racism ? If so then 10,000 complaints to OFCOM.

10. A black person i feel very patronised when some idiot in the media or politically correct jobsworth feels that they have to protect me from white people. I am mature enough and strong enough to be able to understand that we have all got prejudices and while educating people is great, the patronising attitude is counter productive. Pulling up and confrontation between a white person and a person of colour and labelling the white person as racist because of every crap they say is inaccurate counter productive and plays into the hands of the morons who would use it to further their own ends.

11. We love BB and reality TV shows and to be honest in this depressing world, it is a bit of escapism to escape from our doldrum lives which would make us depressed. Music used to be able to do this but im sorry not anymore but watch out for my post on 'the death of music'.

<<< I do not get, rascism , homophobia or any form of bigotry, any person who does understand these forms of behaviour and see them as entertainment, please explain. >>>

It's the tribal mentality, Mart.

The vast majority of people are afraid to be different - and stand out from the mundane majority.

They prefer to melt into the background and be seen as "normal" - and thus react (often violently) to anything which dares to be different.

It's most evident in things like football crowds - who all want to wear the same shirt (ie same war paint) and group together for comfort and security, before attacking anyone daring to wear a "different" shirt.
