Another knee jerk reaction. 17 Years, 2 Months ago
A minority of people abuse the internet, so the government are now looking at making all convicted sex offenders register their screen-names so that they can be flagged whenever they attempt to use the net for communication. I'm concerned about the lack of thought and consideration in yet another lunatic proposal by this strange government. What about the many former offenders who have been using the internet legitimately for their lawful business for the past few years? What about those who were wrongly convicted and are seeing extra punishment heaped upon extra punishment beyond their original sentence?

It seems there is no intention or desire to help rehabilitate ex-offenders in Blair's Britain; only continual retribution and persecution. With these policies, why should any ex-offender even bother trying to go straight? Their reward is to be given more punishment each time someone else commits a crime. No chance to put the past behind them and move forward. No distant glimmer of light to cling to for hope.

When you deprive a person of hope and you treat them like a savage, they will undoubtedly become a savage. Although, in my opinion, there are none so savage as members of this present regime.

It is also an unworkable policy. If someone does have the intention to use the internet to commit a serious crime, they will not be concerned about the minor crime of failing to register a screen-name. Plus, how will the police monitor whether all of an individual's screen-names have been registered, or whether they create new ones after the registration process?

No doubt the News Of The World is whispering in Tony's ear again. It seems that they are behind many of the more irrational policies of this government, manipulating the fears of ill informed parents, and using children as political pawns.

This is not only a bad proposal. It is uncivilised and wholly immoral. Hopefully it will also be in breach of the Human Rights Act and unable to approved by Parliament.
