Why should the public fund for niche pastimes for the Olympics that's every 4 years ?

I want to see more money for grassroot football before badminton and weightlifting.

I want to see the cutting of ALL public funding of ALL Sports. That includes 'fake' funding via the lottery etc. Also I don't see why being good at running around a field should entitle one to honours and peerage....and while i'm on a roll I find the idea of 'sport' or 'games' at school an anachronism. Mind you, that might be partially due to my having been The Fat Kid in my class- you know back when there was , by law, one fat kid and one asthmatic in every class, before all parents stopped smoking in the home and started feeding their kids 5 bits of green shit a day.

(and that was sarcasm incase anyone missed it. I hate to think how many 'obese-but-you-still-rock' and asthmatic kids there will be in Granddaughter's class.)

The Lotto fundinget is a joke numerous women's safe houses were declined but the local allotments received thousands. And guess what they are still neglected.

but the local allotments received thousands

Tell me about it! I had always assumed there was no point in applying to go on the waiting list for an allotment locally. Then our local Power-That-Be started a glossy poster campaign BEGGING people to take an allotment. I only happened to chance on a poster after they had been up a whiles and when I contacted them I assumed, again, I be out of luck- "first come..." and all that.

Turned out I could choose from the 25 allotments, from the new 30 site patch AND they even offered me one on another site rent free! Someone there (TPTB) confessed to me that they were 'desperate' to find tenants, and they'd hoped I'd want one of the 'raised beds' handicapped plots because I'd told them in my application email that The Bestes Frau In The World is disabled...
