TOPIC: Flogging Molly

Flogging Molly 17 Years, 2 Months ago
I`ve just become a huge fan after being asked to teach their songs to a student.
They had completely passed me by before.
I can hardly tip them as they are old news to most, but wow!
"Wailing Wall" is brilliant but I am too old to be down the front when they play that one!

New one for me too... when did Old Ireland relocate to California

Like the Pogues I found them a bit samey but great fun nonetheless. look to be a brilliant live act.

Good old YouTube scored again - the corperate bean counters may not like it but to find stuff is a doddle and for a band like this an excellent advert for live performance.

It's swings and roundabouts.

...just watched a video for their , which caught my eye because of the reference in the JK video-blog and I'm glad for it.

This is an aspect of what the music business is currently lacking. A good tune with a point behind it... and sharp one in front of it too!

The posters comment is "they don't have a video for this, so i made my own" and a good job they did. No sane record company would have ever done such a brilliant, disturbing, harrowing and apt piece of work

NOT a breakfast video!

Good call Mart.

We had two very similar bands down here for a while, both of which are still going although I`m pretty sure one moved away.
"The Cropdusters" and "The Men They Couldn`t Hang", who have just toured I believe.
They are both worth checking out, after looking through Youtube, the latter rather than the former.
It was very strange going through Youtube to find my old mate singing who I used to meet at the burger van!
Youtube appears to be coming as extensive as Wikipedia, only in video form.

I`m guessing here as I don`t have a copy of it.
Besides which Googling is cheating.
"Singing Elvis" I reckon.
My favourites are "Ghosts of Cable street" and "Shirt of Blue".
When I first saw them I believe they were called Catch 22.
I had no idea you had produced them though at all.

WRONG! Back to the end of the queue!!

Actually I didn't produce the track - I remixed it. That's your last clue. I still feel, by the way, that it should have been a smash and it sounds as good today as it did 16 odd years ago.

As my ex-ex X4 girlfriend, kept most of the collection this makes it difficult.
My final stab at it, is "The Colours".

OK - give up? 17 Years, 2 Months ago
It was a remix of Great Expectations including the (cleared and paid for) sample from the brilliant 40's movie at the start.

See if you can track down a copy. It was on Jive/Zomba.

With my first post I habitually clicked on submit and not preview. That's why it changed it's mind half way through as I listened to the band. There is a coda.

On other threads there's concern about content being stolen and put on Youtube et al.

That video sold the CD to me. A CD is now in the post on it's way to me.

If they had had to pay they may not have posted it. If I'd had to pay I wouldn't have watched it.

How many people in 100 would do this I have no idea but in (I assume) a minority of cases the record company gains. Before I saw the Wailing Wall video I liked what I heard but it didn't push me to buy.

Copyright theft is not a black and white issue - the issue is really how much benefit is there in the grey area? (Sorry to run different threads into this one but they all seem to be fragmenting)

I realised I had some credit for tracks on my E-music account and bought the whole thing which was on the i-pod within 20 minutes.
Its a brilliant , literate, toe-tappingly antagonistic album, with fun attached.

There you go, we often discuss the free viewing of music on the web, and we bought the album because it was on there.

CD arrived this morning (Within a mile of home). The Internet is our friend.

that I didn't want to hijack has confirmed I will go to see them live.

Letting me see them for nothing was a good idea.

The folks I've asked all said they were excellent live - it seems Mart and I are the last two people to hear about this band, suppose somebody had to be.
