TOPIC: Upside down on the slide.
#160390
Upside down on the slide. 7 Years ago
A neighbour has a small slide in the front garden for her three year old daughter.

I saw the child slip from the slide and fall with a very very slight bump.
She yelled for her mother, who did not appear, so she carefully rearranged herself upside down, placed her hair over her face, and screamed at the top of her voice that she had hit her head and couldn't move.
Her mother came running.
I said nothing.

But it got me thinking. This is really common in children. My brother once climbed up three flights of stairs to announce that he couldn't walk!

Maybe some false accusers are just "upside down on the slide"
No reason for it, and no particular need for attention. They just (sometimes) do it because it is the way they are.

Haha, what next?! That theory does sound very plausible. If a 3-year-old would do that, why not an adult.

There was something in the news recently about some kind of research into lying. I think it might have been this:
How lying takes our brains down a 'slippery slope'

About two years ago, while cycling along a towpath I came across a large group of people with a small boy trailing slightly behind. As I veered the wheels of my bike over towards one side to get past, the boy ran up to his mother calling out and repeating "Mummy, the bike hit me"! Not so long ago this wouldn't have caused me any concern in the slightest. But nowadays, in this age of witch-hunts and false allegations, I couldn't help but feel a slight tinge of paranoia. How can anyone be sure that a small trivial matter like this could not develop into something much bigger and that the group were not part of the false allegations brigade? Although I was well away from him, there were no CCTV cameras or other witnesses from behind. I decided to stop to "defend" myself. "I wasn't anywhere near him", I said to the mother. She gave me a look as if to say "are you nuts?" (fully understandable) and then said emphatically: "He is only 5 years old"!
