Sheena Easton is wonderful but the entire cast is fantastic; I realised at the end I'd been smiling for two and a half hours solid. So was everyone else. Incredible dancing (mainly tap). No plot to speak of; just absolutely brilliant, happy, hard work. Cannot praise it highly enough. Go see it; it's fabulous.

Only if someone is willing to pay for the tickets.

Can you imagine a 10 or 11 year old, these days, cycling to Ockley Station, catching the train to Waterloo, getting the Tube to Drury Lane, buying a ticket for the balcony out of pocket money (I saved up for ages) which had to be front row as I could only see balanced with my chin on the rail, and then returning? Never had any problems with any perverts (and bet a similar kid wouldn't today either). Watched The King And I starring Herbert Lom (later Pink Panther) and Valerie Hobson (later married to Profumo). Loved every song, Whistled Happy Tunes and thought it was Something Wonderful.

How long did that journey take. The only times I have been to London in adult life was to meet some girlfriends then get a train to Hertfordshire or diner at Liverpool Street, normally ending up getting something naughty afterwards.

But we do pay for west end tickets,Andrew, through the subsidies paid for by taxes even though a lot of us cant afford the tickets and live too far away for it to be convenient, anyway.

I am glad Mr king enjoyed it, but I dont know why I am helping him out with the ticket price.

West End theatre tickets have one thing in common - the high cost - with other major/frequent entertainment events.

The English Premier League, for example: I recently paid £165 for a decent seat at the Arsenal - and then (as Andrew said), there are the ancillary costs.

Food/drink, accommodation, transport etc. The majority cannot afford this - but it is significant that the top EPL teams are booked out for every game.

Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester Utd/City etc. - could sell their seats many times over.

It wasn't always like this - but just another indication of our two tier economic structure...

I've seen and paid through the nose for two recent shows - Harry Potter and 42nd Street; both worth every penny and you can see it on stage and hear it in the quality of the sound. Keep young and beautiful if you want to be loved!

You are lucky to go to an EPL game Spee. I couldn't do it even with a crap seat. Even County Championship games are expensive even for the last day.

I can just about manage booking gig tickets for two.
