TOPIC: Who is the new Dr Who?
#164159
Who is the new Dr Who? 6 Years, 9 Months ago
We shall know in about 6 hours! I don't care one way or the other. As it happens, due to lack of anything decent on TV other than Wimbledon, I'm currently watching a former Dr Who - David Tennant - in Spies of Warsaw (not great so far; half way through). I wasn't a fan of his Dr Who; nor Matt Smith's nor Capaldi until this last, final series. I thought Chris Ecclestone was far and away the best ever.
Kris Marshall? He ruined Death In Paradise (Ben Miller was terrific). A woman? No problem with that. Could it be Billie Piper?

I do agree with JK about lack of good TV. Dr Who is also on that list for me along with anything on the terrestrial TV. BBC are blagging they got cricket rights all they bought were highlights for late hour.

Its a woman, Jodie Whittaker, who I don't know. Finally emancipation has come to the bbc.

As for poor tv, that is usually the case in the summer, but we do have "Into the night" which started well, Mock the week, and Frankie Boyle which has sadly finished after 4 episodes why?.

For me, Doctor Who finished in the 90s. What came later was just something with the same name but none of the substance, so this latest wacky idea is no real surprise. It is, in effect, a different show.
Those who were not fans of the original series, mostly like the new one, and probably don't even know how this gender change doesn't fit with the original concept.
For 4 decades it was my favourite TV show. But it always was just a TV show. I accepted it's death last century, and I moved on.

It's a bit like if Pete Best's son bought the rights to The Beatles and formed a new band under that name. The new band might be popular with a new generation of fans, but it still would not truly be The Beatles.

Good luck to Jodie Whittaker, but I won't be watching.

Now GEORGE Best's son might be fun; with Angie (who I met when she worked for Cher) styling? Funnily enough, I never liked all the original Whos (as you correctly stated - I adored Russell T Davies' era); went off it during the Moffatt era; thought this last series had some very good episodes; remain open minded for the new one - no problem with the Doctor changing sex if the scripts remain strong.
