Have you noticed it's always roofs that tend to go in hurricanes; yes the rest of many buildings come down but it's nearly always the roof that's a key. Can't someone design a roof for hurricane areas with slots open on all sides so the wind could blow through without ripping them off? Solidly rooted in some places. Able to turn and move under stress? With a more solid flat structure beneath? With grooves and drainage?

And then perhaps they could turn their talents to designing garden gazebos that dont fly away at the slightest breeze?
