TOPIC: I have no interest in Sport

Re:I have no interest in Sport 6 Years, 7 Months ago
Those ridiculous Invicta games are due again ... The only "qualification" is that you've had some bits blown off (which is rather the opposite of being an "athlete" !!!!)

Who are they competing against?
.... and WHY ?

Utterly pointless

Free Sports the mediocre FTA channel is good for sports fans like JK.

I can see them being rights holders for Wimbledon and World Cup in the next few years.

I find it obscene that we spend money congratulating those who can afford the best and quickest artificial limbs, when many are left with nothing and told to get on with it because we have no money!

Ah now that's an entire different topic Honey and my answer is, as with so many others, why is one aspect wrong because the other is also? Yes we should (and I thought did) as a society help those in need without money but yes, also we should praise those who make the most of their situation. I think it is natural to feel uncomfortable with seeing the plight of others and likewise to feel "there but for the grace of God go I" but as human beings I think we should get over our discomfort and admire - if not enjoy, the accomplishments of everyone.

I see it no more than publicity stunt by the royal family. The BBC are showing are have wasted more licence fee money on it.

The BBC have made it clear they don't want sport but have it only for the niche market.

I can start watching the first series of Test cricket but never have the time to watch the whole series, this is common with a lot of people.

Highlights are good but can be on very late on Channel 5.

T20 or T10 is the future of cricket but I understand why the older generation hate it.

We must keep the ODI though.

Not much point - maybe, but you're missed it anyway!? Sport is not all about winning, it's about taking part.

Tribalism is a sideshow - to the skill and ability levels exhibited (by the young, elite and old) on roads, pitches, pools, arenas, tracks, stadiums, links etc.

In some games - like golf for instance - the average contestant can compete with (and even beat) elite players. Through the handicap system.

With the huge ongoing growth in sport worldwide, it is clear that most are convinced of its importance.

Most significantly - we can all play almost every sport, however well or badly.

And the sports facilities in the UK are first class; look around you - there is probably an Olympic sized swimming pool within a few minutes, as well as cricket/football pitches and a running track...

We are a bit short of pools here and all I know of are 25 metres, except for a super-duper one in South Liverpool that I do underwater cycling in. (I have to do all exercise except walking underwater because of a back injury, so i do weights, Zumba, aerobics, jogging and swimming).
You are absolutely right of course, and I wish I enjoyed it better, but unless I am actually taking part and trying to win, or it is pretty to watch like gymnastics or swimming I am not much interested unfortunately.

I haven't got the faintest idea what you are talking about !

Could the lack (?) to TV coverage be due to the fact that no one is watching?

Totally agree.

Few can take 5 days off for a Test Match (although the better option), particularly when it may not last that long.

One Day Internationals are a great alternative - and a welcome addition to the fixture lists.

Well you seem quite active to me Honey - sportswise: I know nobody who does underwater cycling.

One great advantage/benefit of engaging in sport in the camaraderie and friends you make - as you try to break 5/6 minutes for the mile, say.

Clubs can be helpful - giving some coaching and direction, to help you reach your right level and potential.

Even if - like me - you win very little! The sense of achievement (albeit modest, perhaps) also helps in everyday life...

I agree, it is especially important for children to learn self discipline and to be gracious in defeat.
We help out at the local judo club, and you can see that it makes a big difference in children's confidence.

Do you play sport, Spee? I dont suppose you have much time, do you?

Play football mainly - badly.

But don't support any team, strictly neutral - but love the skill and spectacle.

A good ticket for a top EPL team costs £100+...then food, drink and transport!

Now more expensive than a West End show, with a BAFTA winning actor...

I wanted to do judo but parents fobbed me off so had to swimming instead, which I despise.

Never been the one for beach in the first place.

This will be fantastic if it was part of the Olympics.

T10 maybe the only way to encourage the Americans to embrace a faster pace of the sport.
