TOPIC: Ryanair

Ryanair 6 Years, 7 Months ago
I've never flown Ryanair - they looked dodgy; now we know they are. I felt the same about EasyJet but tried it - never again. Mind you; all air travel stinks and I've hated it since the last Concorde. But I must say - my recent two British Airways flights from and back to Rome (for a silly court appearance) both went absolutely fine.

I still remember Freddie Laker fondly. His flights to NY were excellent and cheap.
A man ahead of his time.

Ah yes; Freddie Laker; without him there would be no Virgin. As, without JK, there would be no Virgin (Branson learned all about Self Promotion and labels from me and took Genesis, via Charisma, which funded most of his otherwise failing music - lousy ears; good brain). But I often admit without Brit (and then Island) Records there would have been no UK Records (Chris Peers - Blackwell's partner, just died). We all have our influences.

I can kind of understand why they have to cut costs and subsequently make their service shit. It's a numbers game with airlines and they don't actually make much money nowadays; they are financed up to the eyeballs and are vulnerable to literally anything that happens in the world. The industry as a whole has probably made as much profit in 50 years as the banking industry makes in 5. That old myth about an airline saving £40k a year by cutting an olive from each salad is probably true.

good analysis.

No need to worry ... all those who are going to boycott Ryanair are just like those who complain about Mike Ashley, then march off to buy from Sports Direct.

1. Not very bright
2. Will ALWAYS go where its cheapest

Not many companies can issue a £750 million bond (borrow) at only 1.125% - and have it fully subscribed (Feb/17) in a few minutes.

If you need to fly to Budapest or Prague on a certain day at a certain airport or airport group (i.e. all London airports), then you don't have much choice but to fly ryan air, without paying massively more money. 90% of the population without millions in the bank have to use these airlines. Ryan Air have improved over recent years and they have scrapped charges for toilets and their baggage allowances are better than Wizz air, but you generally nearly always have to put your bags in the cabin.

'Toilet charges' were a publicity stunt - which worked!

Like standing - buslike...
