‘Harvey Weinstein’s Media Enablers’? The New York Times Is One of Them

But I simply gagged when I read Jim Rutenberg’s sanctimonious piece on Saturday about the “media enablers” who kept this story from the public for decades.

“Until now,” he puffed, “no journalistic outfit had been able, or perhaps willing, to nail the details and hit publish.”

That’s right, Jim. No one — including The New York Times.

# what the writer hasn't said (and thereby proves he is as ignorant and clueless as the NYTimes (and ITK) is that dozens, hundreds? of wannabee movie stars were more than happy to participate in Hollywood's infamous Casting Couch.

This is a game of prostitution where deals are done..and that includes Ashley Judd who only speaks now and if these tales were true- she was an enabler of assault

On the one hand, if his behaviour was impeccable, why did he apologise?

The "dress" shown in the video that McGowan chose to wear the year after her payout certainly looks like something from a prostitution emporium. She apparently has an autobiography in the pipeline called "Brave" (www.harpercollins.com/9780062655981/brave).

I also can't understand why adults should be praised for their bravery in allowing a supposed abuser to continue for years. It sounds to me as if he may well have tried his luck with certain women, with some probably spurning his advances, but also wonder whether past events are now being reconfigured for effect.

I think more long-term damage is caused to society by not taking responsibility to report incidents of abuse as soon as possible - even if not believed and a subsequent investigation is unable to uncover any evidence. It's only at this stage that a humane way of dealing with the problem can be established and that any corrective measures can be taken - even if this involves just a hint of warning. Leaving things to fester and develop into a witch-hunt of mammoth proportions years later is not only destructive but actually perpetuates abuse, albeit of a different kind. Making outspoken comments unsupported by evidence is also abuse.
