by Michael Billington who says only two stars he's interviewed were "touched by genius" - Olivier and Dodd.

Doddy is a legend, I love the fact that his live shows can last into the early hours of the morning. His energy is amazing.

I really hope Doddy escapes the false allegations after he is no longer Entertaining in this world.

I can't help feeling it will be another free for all. Unmarried Entertainer who has worked the length and breadth of the Country.

I really pray that my gut feeling is wrong.

Don't miss the interview with him on radio 4 at 8pm tonight.

I've always admired his longevity, his stamina and he is very likeable, however I've never really found him that funny.

Doddy always makes me laugh, but I'm never sure why. I think that's a sign of his genius. Les Dawson and Tommy Cooper were the same; totally barking mad but with an amazing ability to tickle the chuckle muscles.

Agree entirely.

I think the "secret" is that all those acts trod the boards for years and learnt their craft.

These days someone wins X Talent (or whatever it is) and has never actually appeared before an audience,
so hardly surprising that they come across as cardboard cuts out.
