Legendary entertainer Derek Griffiths joined twitter last year and even was given a blue tick (which all high profile people have) but
in recent months it came to light that this person was just a conman called Lewis C Humphreys who has a history of creating fake twitter accounts posing as celebrities to get money from them.

Paddy McGuinness paid £600 for dinner with Derek Griffiths only to recently find out that he was scammed.
This story is breaking and Iain Lee has got more on his Talk Radio show tonight.

The news that this "Derek Griffiths" was fake was originally broken by Hollyoaks actress Annie Wallace.

There is also speculation this "Lewis C Humphreys" is behind another celeb account Joe McFadden (Strictly/Casualty/Heartbeat fame).

This is not the first time and won't be the last. People of a certain age are interested in following minor celebs from their childhood past. Last year Geoffery Bayldon (Catweazle) popped up on Twitter and claimed to have just discovered Twitter at the age of 93. No-one really questioned this and thousands followed him. It was up for months before a friend and fansite manager tweeted that this was not the real Geoffery Bayldon and and demanded it be taken down. Even then people still followed.
I must admit I followed Derek Griffiths on Twitter and it seemed genuine enough - he tweeted a lot about his recent role in Driving Miss Daisy and Coronation St. and fellow actors and colleagues Les Dennis and Floella Benjamin tweeted replies to him. Makes you wonder how many other accounts are genuine or not.
