Incidentally, Ken Branagh deserved Best Actor BAFTA for his amused smile throughout Ridley Scott's dreadful, boring speech, delivered from cards; surely he could have produced and delivered something better?

Yes. It wasn't even as if it was a spur of the moment thing. His notes were thicker than the yellow pages.
I wonder why he didnt show them to someone first? (I'd have thrown them in the fire )

Apparently he is no stranger to making off-the-cuff statements so perhaps he is just being extra cautious in this day and age of witch hunts.
